Strathmore Residence

Status: Completed 2024

Client: Private

the Strathmore House is more than a residence; it is a family's sanctuary where history and contemporary lives converge in harmony. The original red brick façade with its ornate details remains preserved, while the design prioritizes functionality alongside beauty.

original building features have been retained where possible, while modern additions enhance the space's usability. The interior design combines classic elements with contemporary finishes, creating rooms that feel both historically grounded and relevant at present. It has been transformed through careful contemporary interventions, creating a residence where historical character and modern living co-exist.

checkered marble floors create visual continuity between old and new spaces, preserving its inherent elegance. The project demonstrates how heritage buildings can be successfully updated for modern use without losing their architectural significance. Rather than simply preserving the past or completely modernizing, this renovation shows how historical and contemporary elements can work together effectively. This approach to renovation respects the building's history while making it relevant for current and future residents. The result is a property that honours its heritage while functioning as a modern home, creating a bridge between Melbourne's architectural past and present.

This is more than a renovation, it's a respectful dialogue between eras.
